Wild Horses of the Camargue – By Lesley Wood

Qualified and highly professional, Lesley Wood is an award winning photographer with an international reputation forher stunning and emotionally vibrant people, horse and pet portrait photography. Lesley is now more of a friend of Aperture Books than a customer and loves to work with us to create and produce coffee table books to showcase her stunning photography.

After creating a book using our free software, Lesley is able to sit back and leave the production to us. All books are ordered online and then thoroughly checked within our pre-press department.
Our carefully selected fine art stock contrasts beautifully with the natural photographic colours of the images. For this particular book we felt that some of the middle spreads would lend themselves to using a pearlescent stock, to bring out the depth and emotion of the images. It’s amazing to think that these incredible images are produced on our HP Indigo 5000. Our HP Indigo 5000s continue to produce top notch work for us. As with a good car, regular servicing and some TLC by our first class operators, ensure fabulous results.

Following the printing, each page is creased within the book block at a precise position which enables the easy page turn on this 300gsm paper stock. This reduces ‘bounce’ when the book is laid open and pages turned. The block is then glued and clamped before being hand drilled and stitched by hand using our trade secret method.

The covers are printed on our large format printer and then matt laminated and placed over a double strength and durable 4mm board.

THE END RESULT
The beauty of a project like this is that it is a wholeteam effort. A team who show continued enthusiasm and passion. From the photographer Lesley, through to our pre press department, print and finishing team.

We have shown this book at a number of photographic exhibitions across the country including Photovision Road show events, SWPP exhibitions and the trade Photography show held over 4 days at the NEC. The reaction to this piece has been exciting and we have attracted many new customers due to the contemporary and clean feel of this robust press printed coffee table book. It’s fair to say that this book is a show stopper! Obviously the icing on the cake would be to have Lesley’s work not only recognised in the photographic world, but within the digital print industry too.

We are very proud of this book and are entering it to various awards over the coming year. We feel it exemplifies the standard of our books. Careful selection of paper stocks, together with digital printing and traditional book binding methods really do bring the subject matter to life and create high end result that (in our opinion) many other commercially printed products fail to deliver.
